What…A Kinky Romp in the Hay Isn’t Hot Enough?

Hey – don’t get me wrong, I love a hot story that’s laced with angst and passion and even all the yummy romantic stuff. I mean, i am a girl after all, right? Okay, here’s the thing – I’m finding that my erotic stories that have a serious drama nestled in the middle with the possibility of murder, kidnapping, abusive monsters and every other form of horrors people have to deal with seem to sell better.

Of course – we want a story nestled in the middle but then again, you want hot, wild, wicked sex too. Don’t you? I’m often asked about how I develop a story and which comes first, the characters or the story line. In truth the story normally comes to me first and usually in the middle of the night. For some reason I dream in vivid color and a lot of times my dreams are based in murder and blood.

Yes, I’m a little bit odd but you all knew that anyway. I’ve always had a wild imagination and had few friends as a kid so I made stories and situations up in my head. In addition there was a lot of abuse in my family so I used my characters I created as my escape. It’s easy for me to write about some horrible things like physical abuse, rape and kidnapping because I know a bit about wretched moments and what I don’t know I read extensively about.

You really want to bring forth a story that’s accurate whether you’re talking about using a Glock or using the military and the many levels of complexity that you must know about. I wouldn’t dare try to put anything having to do with the military in my pieces other than a basic reference because I could in no way honor our fine men and women that serve but I can write about sex and passion and abuse and…well you get the idea.

In penning Truth, Dare or Dangerous Intent – my latest – I really had to be careful how I handled a series rape scene. Of course my hero had nothing to do with the terrible moment in Leesa’s life, the damning event happened in her past, but I had to be very careful how I handled her ability to survive and eventually move on. For anyone that’s ever been abused, you understand you can’t snap your fingers and feel better. It takes years and even then, trusting enough to love and even have sex is tough at best. I truly think the piece while damning is also soul searching and full of passion.

Still – I‘ve read enough fine stories where the sex is just that…sex. We aren’t all romantic gurus but we all have some level of fantasies buried deep within us. I love bringing out something that you and your partner might not think about whether it’s using food in the bedroom such as jams and champagne, honey and chocolate syrup to snuggling up to the internet and ordering sex toys together. It’s sexy as hell and can really bring you closer.

But for some reason writers just can’t place that bit of wickedness into a piece and have it believable. Then there are others that are so good at drawing you into the scene you can feel the silk sheets and gather a delicious whiff of the vanilla candles flickering in the room.

I love writing about kinky sex that you might not consider from sex clubs to voyeurism to multiple partners and BDSM. What I find interesting in looking at my book sales is the good old romp with a sexy plot and a happy ending isn’t a popular as my abuse pieces – so… I think this girl is changing her tune and is going to bring you less romp and more angst. What do you think? I love hearing from my readers and really want to know what you like.

It’s already been established that my m/m pieces are the hot sellers so I continue to create new characters – developed a hot one today on my walk called His Deliverance. It’s going to be a serious tear jerker and one that stretches all those limits we as writers have to be careful of. There are things we can’t write about but I’m going to delve into something that you might not expect. Still… I have to be careful.

How do I create story lines? From our every day lives and while there’s passion and joy, there’s also worry and fear and I hope my stories remind you that you can dare to dream and live a fantasy at least a few minutes of your day. We watch movies for this reason, right? So…it’s summer. Grab a glass of wine, your loaded kindle and step outside under the umbrella for a hot read.

Whether you like paranormal. suspense, drama, comedy or nothing but pure wicked sex – go for it. I’ll continue to stretch my horizons and bring you something spicy.

Enjoy your weekend
