My Special Guest – Cara Bristol…and Her Sexy Interview

This lady is HOT HOT HOT and her new release is even hotter. I am so pleased to have today the lovely and sassy Miss Cara Bristol – a wonderful writer, a master tweeter and a good friend. Take a taste of her and her new release Unexpected Consequences. BTW – she’s doing a prize for a chance to win a copy of this naughty release. Just comment on her blog through the end of September and she’ll select at random. All her contact info will be at the bottom so good luck you wicked readers!

How did you get started writing?

First of all, Cassandre, let me thank you for the interview. It’s a great pleasure to be here. To answer your question, I’ve written all my life, starting out as newspaper reporter and then moving into PR. I’ve been a life-long reader of romance, so it was inevitable that I’d merge writing with romance and become a romance author.

What inspires you the most?

I draw inspiration from all over – little snippets of history or current event, things I see on the internet, moods, stray thoughts…

Are you lucky enough to write full time or do you have another job?

I actually do write full-time. I’m in awe of authors who still manage to write when they have “day jobs” and children at home.

What genre/s do you write in?

I write contemporary erotic romance. Unexpected Consequences, my new release with Loose Id, is a domestic discipline story. I also have a cougar romance under consideration.

What’s another genre you’d love to try writing?

I’m happy writing contemporary erotic romance, but I’d love to write a sexy paranormal vampire story.

What do your friends and family think about your writing?

Some are shocked; others are curious. Until recently I wouldn’t tell people my pen name, the title of my books, or even who my publishers are. The stuff I write is pretty racy. Now I do tell people because it’s easier to sell books if people know you’ve written them.

What’s the biggest misconception about being a writer?

The biggest one is that an author publishes one book and makes loads of money. Another one is that writing is a task like washing the dishes or folding laundry – easy to put down and pick up again. People don’t realize the loss in productivity and creativity interruptions have on a writer.

What do you love and hate most about writing?

I love the creative aspect. That I take almost nothing – a simple thought – and weave it into a story that can be enjoyed by others. What I dislike is that sometimes it’s very hard to do this. Sometimes writing is SO easy; and other times it’s not.

What are you currently working on and what’s coming up for you?

Loose Id just released my latest novella, Unexpected Consequences! It’s an erotic domestic discipline story about a newlywed couple coming to grips with the modern, but also very traditional lifestyle they’ve chosen. I was intrigued by the idea that there are real couples out there who practice domestic discipline as a lifestyle – the husband is the head of the family and asserts discipline by spanking the wife. I wanted to explore that within the context of a marriage that is still very modern…and Unexpected Consequences was born.

What experiences have you had working with your publisher/s?

It’s been great. I have two publishers. Black Velvet Seductions published Intimate Submission and Secret Desires, and now Loose Id has published Unexpected Consequences. I’ve learned so much and improved my writing by working with very talented editors. You can be told “this” is the way to write something, or “this” is the style, but nothing hits home like seeing the edits in your manuscript.

Some fun questions…

Do you write to music and if so, to what?

No. I need it quiet so I can hear the voices in my head. LOL.

Do you have a ritual with writing?

I’m a morning person and I do my best work early in the day, but I also like to ease into writing. I get a cup of coffee and then I spend maybe half an hour checking email, Tweeting a bit, checking my blog and Facebook, and then I write for a few hours. I take a break, shower, eat breakfast, putter around the house, and then write more in the afternoon.

Who is your favorite character you’ve written and why?

That’s like asking a mother which child is her favorite! That said, I like Melania and Jared Traynor in Unexpected Consequences. Melania is a bit pampered, but spunky and her actions set stuff in motion that shock the hell out of her. Jared is strong and loves his wife, but he’s forced to take action despite having doubts about it. That happens all the time in real life – we’re called upon to make a decision, but we don’t have all the information we need to be certain we’re making the right one.

What’s something you can’t live without for writing?

My computer. I NEVER would have become a writer if not for the computer. I’m not a good typist and I find writing longhand laborious.

Favorite color and does it suit your personality and why?

I have two favorite colors: blue and red. I like the serenity of blue and think when people first meet me, I seem shy and quiet to them. And I am. But red is flashy and bold and there is a side of my personality that wants to make a big splash. Maybe that’s why I write erotic romance.

If you had to use a food or drink to entice your love, what would it be and how would you use it?

I would make his favorite meal (mashed potatoes and gravy), set a nice table, wear something sexy, dim the lights and let nature take its course. I can usually woo my husband with mashed potatoes and gravy. LOL.

What’s your favorite seduction song?

I love “Hold Me, Thrill me, Kiss Me.”

What would you consider to be the most romantic place on earth and why?

Certain places in nature where I’ve had some simple, romantic picnics. Being alone with someone you love in nature and focusing only on each other has a way of stirring the senses (and the libido).

Blurb for Unexpected Consequences:

Having been reared in a traditional family in which her father was the undisputed head of household, Melania Traynor eagerly vows to follow and obey her new husband. She’s thrilled to marry Jared Traynor, man who will love, protect and guide her with a firm hand.

She has no idea how firm.

Jared belongs to the Rod and Cane Society, an organization of men and their wives who are devoted practitioners of domestic discipline.

When Melania disobeys a “request” from her husband and attempts to hide her disobedience, Jared delivers the spanking he feels is warranted.

Although Melania consents, she fears that she got more than she bargained for and doubts she can submit to a lifetime of domestic discipline.

Jared doubts he can accept anything less.

Excerpt for Unexpected Consequences:

One second she stood beside him, her face pressed to the glass like a little kid at a candy store, and the next she’d evaporated, materializing inside the shop. Jared enjoyed seeing Melania so excited, her face lit up like a Christmas tree, but she had the proclivity to spend a lot of money if not restrained. It was one behavior, among others, she needed to work on, and there was no time like the present. This offered a prime opportunity to test and verify her trust and obedience.

He followed her into the shop.

“The clerk thinks she has my size.” Melania was seated in a chair, her sandals already off her feet.

“You don’t need another pair of shoes.” Jared shook his head. “It’s getting late. I have a full day tomorrow, and you have a list of things you wanted to get done for the party.”

“I’ll only be a minute. I want to try them. Please?” Her gaze turned beguiling, and even though he knew he needed to resist the pull, his resolve softened.

“You can try them,” he agreed pointedly.

The clerk, a woman about Melania’s age but with eyebrow and nose piercings and short, spiked hair dyed overly black, appeared with a box. “This pair is one of our best sellers. You’re lucky we have your size.”

She nudged a stool into place in front of Melania and straddled it. The clerk flipped the lid off the box and pushed aside the tissue paper to reveal the shoes. Melania stretched out a delicate, pedicured foot, and the salesgirl slid one shoe on, then the other. Even with the platform, the heels were incredibly high.

“Oh my God, they’re gorgeous.” Melania’s hushed tone was reverent.

Jared frowned. “How would you walk in those things?”

Melania exchanged an amused glance with the salesgirl. “Silly, they’re not for walking. They just make you feel good.”

She rose and tottered a few steps before finding her sea legs and striding confidently across the carpeted floor. The shoes caused her back to arch, accentuated her chest, and made her legs appear a mile long. Her perfect ass sashayed with each step, undermining his good intentions.

Jared envisioned her wearing the shoes and nothing else, bent over the dining table or the desk in his home office. His cock hardened. He curled his mouth with amusement. Melania was right. The shoes made one feel good.

She could wear them at their small dinner party. He would make love to her on the dining table before his friends arrived, and afterward, while she coolly attended to their guests, he would grin secretly at the memory.

He would buy her the shoes.

Melania performed a pirouette and glided toward him. “Please, Jared? I know they’re really expensive and I have red ones, but not like these.” She tilted her head to the side, her glowing hazel eyes beseeching him.

Melania loved the shoes.

He loved the shoes.

His cock loved the shoes.

“No.” He shook his head. “Not today, Melania.” He injected a steely edge into his tone.

I like what you said about misconceptions about writers. Wouldn’t it be nice if writing/publishing your first book meant instant riches? I’ve met quite a few people who think that. LOL If only. And those same people tend to think that it’s a simple task you can pick up and put down on a whim without any thought after tedious interruptions… Which is partially true for me (how could I write with a two year old at home if it wasn’t?), but it really kills my concentration and productivity. We writers need uninterupted time to, well, write!
