What If There Were Creatures of the Night?

Isn’t that a very interesting question? Well the truth is there has to be something other than us measly little humans out there, right? We all enjoy horror stories and creatures of the night. I grew up on Dark Shadows and other what I considered terrifying pieces. We all watched the bad “b” rated movies in our time on the big screen with creatures in the middle and while they were true fantasy, the movies were certain fun to watch.

I’ve always had an affinity to creatures who truly can terrify us – and I’m not talking about serial killers, the real monsters. In creating some paranormal pieces I tend to believe in legends. I have an ongoing legend thread through many of my vampire and were-creature books about the Scarlet or Red Moon and the effects not only on my creatures but also on the humans who love and live with them. I have one coming out that is a mere taste of what the legend and the curse might do.

Its’ a holiday weekend and I have three coming out on Monday and I also have one coming soon so going to bring you lots of excerpts and thoughts this weekend. Take a taste of my creatures of the night and see what you think…

Scarlet Dumane didn’t believe in the ways of voodoo and magic or in creatures of the night. When she was called to the Bayou to settle her grandmother’s estate, she was faced with the possibility that werewolves existed. Immediately she began receiving calls from the townsfolk that didn’t like her kind. As a mysterious stranger and former handyman of her grandmother’s appeared at her door, she was curious to find out more. Larken Myers was sexy, rough-hewn and instantly their combined chemistry indicated something more than just attraction.

Finding an ancient book telling a tall fairytale of wolves, mating and a mysterious red moon, Scarlet scoffed at the information, until the threats became real. Larken enlisted the help of his two best friends to protect the woman he adored and the secret life he shared with others deep in the woods. As the crimson hued full moon approached, the town was determined to hunt her down. Could the three wolves protect her or would their entire existence be wiped out?

Blinking furiously, Scarlet could barely hold back her hand from reaching out and
yanking his body into hers. She had never had this kind of reaction to a man before. “Thank you.”

“I have to admit, I’m not sure what smells better, wafting tomato sauce or your sensuous perfume.”

“They’re few single women out here, huh?”

Grinning, Larken blushed. “Okay, you’re right but I’m not lying to you. You’re a gorgeous woman.” He trailed behind her into the kitchen.

Pilfering through the cabinets, Scarlet found a large glass and placed the flowers in water. “Wine?”

“Hmmm… How about something stronger? It’s been a long day.”

“And my guess is that you know exactly where my grandmother might have kept her stash?”

Larken gave her a mischievous grin. “Viola was one amazing woman.”

“Help yourself.”

Walking to the farthest cabinet, he pulled out a bottle of Kentucky whiskey and held it up. “Care to join me?”

Eyeing the bottle of hard liquor, she nodded. “After what I found nestled in a closet today, I could use it.”

“Uh oh. What did you find?” Grabbing two rocks glasses out of another cabinet, he opened the bottle and poured.

“Ever hear of the Legend of the red moon and the red wolf?” As Larken hesitated, she knew he had. “Not you too.”

Saying nothing as he added ice cubes to the drinks, he finally turned. “What do you know?”

“That the red moon only occurs every thousand years and it’s the time that the nearly extinct red wolf is supposed to take back their rightful place in the world. My grandmother believed that there was a special mate destined to bring the three pack leaders together forging a union that until the end of time couldn’t be broken. She had a book that tells the lovely fairy tale.”

Handing Scarlet a drink, Larken gazed into her eyes. “Did you read to the end of the book?”

“I read enough.”

“And if a suitable mate isn’t found?”

“Then the pack will die.” Unnerved by the entire conversation, Larken emitted a vibe that danced around the two of them. Electric current ran strong and suddenly she could barely breathe.

“And what if a suitable mate is found?” Inching closer, Larken brushed a strand of hair from her mouth.

Instantly her body quivered as the connection became intense. “Then…then…werewolves become the leaders taking back the land that had been stolen from them.”

“Yes but not to harm anyone. They are a peaceful breed.”

Placing a single finger under her chin, Larken lifted it slowly and captured her mouth. The kiss became a passionate roar of man and woman, hungry, their burning desire wafting between them. Pushing his tongue past her lips, he wrapped his arm around her waist and drew Scarlet into the heat of his body.

Her body trembling, she fumbled to set her glass down on the counter, barely pushing it past the edge. While somewhere in the back of her mind she knew her behavior bordered on insane, their savage attraction couldn’t be denied. Their tongues entwining, the kiss became a manic roar of hunger and need.

Larken ground his hips into her belly, pressing his throbbing cock into her heat. Setting his glass down with a hard thud, he yanked her tightly against him.

A moment of blissful rapture settled around her and as he broke the kiss, she palmed his chest, gathering the soft material of his shirt between her fingers. “Wow.”

Growling, his tone filled with husky need, he nipped her bottom lip before licking around the edge of her mouth. “I’ve never wanted another woman this much.”

Tilting her head back, the look in his eyes was almost starting. Gone were the intense emerald green eyes. In their replacements were pools of iridescent shimmers, his pupils almost completely black. “Larken.”

“Shhh…you feel it too. We’re meant to be together.” Pressing the edge of her dress past her shoulders, he kissed her mouth and licked down the side of her neck. “Let yourself go.”

Scarlet wanted nothing more than to have him deep inside of her, thrusting his cock in and out until she came in wave after wave. “I don’t do this with strangers,” she breathed.

“I haven’t been with another woman in over two years.” Giving her a mischievous grin, he pushed the slip of material down her arms, exposing her breasts.

While she wanted to be embarrassed, she couldn’t be. His look of longing forced her to throw her last inhibitions aside.

“God, you’re beautiful.” Cupping her breasts, Larken caressed them, flicking his fingers back and forth across her nipples until they became rock hard. Lowering his head, he placed her hard bud into his mouth and suckled, dragging his rough tongue back and forth across.

Arching her back, Scarlet whimpered and closed her eyes. She slid her hand down his chest to his waist and further down, resting her hand on his throbbing shaft. As she stroked him, going up and down the length, she shivered. He was huge. Resisting the urge to giggle, she fumbled to release his cock as he moved to her other breast, biting down until a flash of pain rushed her system, sending trickles of her honey down her legs.

Brushing his hands down the side of her waist, he tugged her dress past her hips and pushed the material to the floor.

Kicking off her heels, she lifted her legs and slid the dress to the side and a series of emotions ravaged her soul. This was really happening. “Shirt off.” Yanking the hem out of his pants, she pushed Larken back and purred before jerking the polo off his body.

“You’re hungry.”

“Famished.” Licking her lips, Scarlet pulled down his zipper and reached inside. “Oh my.” Going commando, she smiled at the thought as she wrapped her hands around his shaft, freeing him from the tight confines. Pushing his jeans past Larken’s hips, she inhaled the sultry scent of the man that would become her lover and shivered.

Are you scare yet? I hope you enjoyed
